Run for the Kids
Extra Trains will run to Southern Cross Station prior to the event.
Please allow extra time travelling to and from Southern Cross. Passengers are advised to disembark at Southern Cross and make their way to Docklands on foot, towards the start line on Footscray Road.
There will be disruptions across the public transport and road network. Check for public transport and road disruptions before you leave home.

Metropolitan train
Getting to Southern Cross
Extra Trains will run to Southern Cross prior to the event, please use Journey Planner to plan your journey.
Sunbury line passengers are advised to change trains at Footscray, then board a Craigieburn or Upfield line train to Southern Cross.
Pakenham and Cranbourne line passengers can alight at Town Hall and transfer to Flinders Street to board trains towards Southern Cross.
Please note there will be bus replacements running between:
- Newport to Werribee, all day
- Camberwell to Ringwood, all day
Werribee line passengers are advised to board bus replacements and then alight at Newport to board trains to Southern Cross.
Lilydale and Belgrave line passengers are advised to board bus replacement services at Ringwood, then alight at Camberwell for a Glen Waverly or Alamein line train to Southern Cross.
Metropolitan tram
Getting to Southern Cross
Due to road closures for Run for the Kids, there will be service changes on the metropolitan tram network. Customers may wish to consider transferring onto a train at the earliest opportunity to reach Southern Cross.
The following routes will be directly affected: 11, 12, 30, 35, 48, 58, 70, 75, 86, 96 and 109.
Flinders Street Trams
Route 70: From first service to 6.30pm, trams to operate a shortened service between Stop 61 Elgar Rd and Stop 2 Melbourne Aquarium.
Route 75: From 2am to 6.30pm, trams to operate a shortened service between Stop 75 Vermont South / Burwood Hwy and Stop 2 Melbourne Aquarium.
La Trobe Street Trams
Route 30: From first service to 6.30pm, trams to operate a shortened service between Stop 1 Spencer St / La Trobe St and Stop 12 St Vincent’s Plaza.
Route 35: From 1.30pm to 6.30pm, tram to operate a shortened service between Stop 1 Spencer St / La Trobe St and Stop 2 Melbourne Aquarium.
Bourke Street Trams
Route 86: From 2am to 6.30pm, trams to operate a shortened service between Stop 71 McKimmies Rd / Plenty Rd and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station / Spencer St.
Route 96: From 5.30am to 1.30pm, Trams to operate in two sections:
- Between Stop 139 Acland St and Stop 124 Batman Park
- Between Stop 23 Blyth St and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station / Spencer St
Collins Street Trams
Route 11: From first service to 6.30pm, Trams to operate a shortened service between Stop 47 Regent St / Gilbert Rd and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station / Spencer St / Collins St.
Route 12: From first service to 1.30pm, trams to operate in two sections:
Between Stop 143 Fitzroy St / Park St and Stop 124 Batman Park.
Between Stop 24 Victoria Gardens / Victoria St and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station / Spencer St
Route 109: From 5.30am to 1.30pm, trams to operate in two sections:
Between Stop 58 Box Hill Central and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station Spencer St
Between Stop 129 Beacon Cove and Stop 124 Batman Park
William Street Trams
Route 58: From first service to 1.30pm, trams to operate in two sections:
- Between Stop 45 Bell St / Melville Rd and Stop 4 Collins St / William St (shunting in Market St)
- Between Stop 139 Glenferrie Rd / Toorak Rd and Stop 116 City Rd / Kings Way
Metropolitan bus
Getting to and from Southern Cross
Passengers can board one of the following services travelling close to Southern Cross.
- Route 216
- Route 220
- Route 232
Passengers please note that due to road closures for Run for the Kids, there will be service changes and shuttle services running on the metropolitan bus network.
The following routes will be affected, terminating and commencing in different locations, from first service until 2.30pm.
- Route 216
- Route 220
- Route 232
- Route 234
- Route 235
Bus routes 216 and 220 will divert between Footscray Plaza and the City in both directions, via a shuttle service. Please see shuttle service information below.
Bus route 232 will divert from the Westgate Fwy via Todd Road and Wharf Road to terminate and commence at Fisherman’s Bend, in both directions.
Passengers can board bus route 235 services to continue their journey between Fisherman’s Bend and Napier Street in both directions.
Bus route 234 will terminate and commence on City Road and not travel to or from Queen Street (City), in both directions.
Passengers travelling from the City can board services at City Road/ Raglan Street towards Garden City.
Passengers travelling from Garden City can alight at City Road/ Clarendon Street (stop 342) towards the City.
Route 235 will terminate and commence at Normanby Road and not travel to or from Queen Street (City), in both directions.
Passengers travelling from the City can board services at Normanby Road/ Montague Street towards Fisherman’s Bend.
Passengers travelling from Fisherman’s Bend can alight at Derham Street/ Normanby Road towards the City.

Route 605 will divert via Punt Road, Albert Road and Lonsdale Streets in both directions.

Shuttle Services
From first service to 2.30pm, a shuttle bus service will operate on routes 216 and 220 for passengers between Footscray Plaza Shopping Centre and the City, to service bus stops affected by the event.
Passengers travelling from the City can board shuttles and transfer to regular services at Footscray Plaza towards Sunshine Station.
Passengers travelling from Sunshine Station can alight from regular services and transfer to shuttles at Irving Street towards the City.
Regional train
Getting to and from Southern Cross
- Regular trains will operate to and from Southern Cross Station.
Passengers are advised to alight at Southern Cross and may their way to Docklands and Footscray Road to the start line.
Regional Coach
Passengers please note that due to road closures for Run for the Kids, there will be service changes on the coach network.
The following routes will be affected from first service until 2.30pm:
- Yarram to Melbourne
Yarra to Melbourne coach will divert via Eastlink and the Eastern Fwy with no impact to coach stops.
