Public transport on Australia Day
On public holidays, daily myki fare caps apply ($8 for full fare and $4 for concessions and seniors), giving you unlimited travel for the day as usual.

Metropolitan train
- Metro trains will run to a Saturday timetable.
- Night Network services will not run.
- The Metro Tunnel is now open – see the Metro Tunnel service information page for details.
Summer Start weekend timetable (30 November 2025 to 1 February 2026)
- Metro Tunnel services run every 20 minutes between Westall and West Footscray from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
- Some services extend to:
- East Pakenham every 40 minutes, and
- Sunbury every 60 minutes.
- All other trains on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, and Sunbury lines continue to run through the City Loop on their regular timetable.
Metropolitan tram
- Trams run to a Saturday timetable.
- Night network services will not run.
Australian Open event tram services
- Australian Open shuttle trams run as Route 70a between Stop D6 Flinders Street West and Stop 7C MCG Gates 4-7 / John Cain Arena, until one hour after the end of play each night.
- Event trams also run as Route 70a after the end of play each night between Flinders Street Station and Stop 39 Camberwell Tram Depot
- Australian Open shuttles are free for event ticket holders and accredited staff.

Regional train and coach
V/Line services will run to a Saturday timetable for the Australia Day public holiday on Monday 26 January, except:
- Swan Hill Line trains will run to a Sunday timetable.
Bendigo Line
- The 3:47pm Eaglehawk to Southern Cross train will depart from Eaglehawk later at 6.48pm. This is due to the service originating at Swan Hill and running to a Sunday timetable.
Geelong – Apollo Bay
- Apollo Bay Summer timetable will run.
Night Coaches
- All night coaches will not run.
Metropolitan and regional bus
- Metropolitan buses will mostly run to a Saturday timetable
- Regional bus timetables will vary by operator.
- Night network services will not run.
