Carnival packs the day with things to watch, try, taste and share. It’s the iconic LGBTQIA+ open-air party that launches the three-week Midsumma Festival.

Getting to and from Alexandra Gardens – It's a 10-minute walk between Flinders Street Station and Midsumma Carnival
Extra trains are running arriving in the city around 10am so you can have brunch or buy picnic supplies in the city before the carnival kicks off.
Extra trains are running in the evening between 8pm and 11pm halving wait times on popular train lines.
Extra trains are running half an hour later than usual on all lines with final departures from 12:29am. Extra trains are running through the Metro Tunnel as part of the Summer Start. It’s a 15-minute walk from Town Hall to Alexandra Gardens or a nice 20-minute walk through the parks from Anzac Station to Alexandra Gardens.
If you miss the last train and the tennis runs late, then 40 minutes after the last ball special night buses will depart from the Russell St end of Federation Square. See here for more information.

Getting to and from Alexandra Gardens
Lots of trams operate along nearby St Kilda Road including routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72. The nearest tram stop is at the Arts Centre.
Extra Trams will operate on parts of Route 70 along Flinders Street. These trams are low floor, providing an accessible option on a corridor that is not usually accessible.

Metropolitan bus
Getting to and from Alexandra Gardens
An extra bus will run 30 minutes later than usual on route 246 towards Clifton Hill and towards Elsternwick.
The following bus route travels close to Alexandra Gardens, refer to timetables to see when they run. Unfortunately, some of this route concludes prior to the event finishing.
- Route 605 (Gardenvale – City (Queen Victoria Market)) nearest stop Southbank Theatre/Southbank Bvd
If you miss the last bus on routes 216 or 907 and the tennis runs late, then 40 minutes after the last ball special night buses will depart from the Russell St end of Federation Square. See here for more information.
Regional train
Getting to and from Alexandra Gardens
Planned disruptions will impact passengers on the Geelong and Ballarat lines.
Gippsland passengers can get off at Flinders Street Station. All other passengers can change trains at Footscray or Southern Cross Stations for a Metro Train to Flinders Street or Town Hall Stations. It’s a 10–15-minute walk from there.
