Catastrophic and extreme fire danger forecast - Friday 9 January

On Friday 9 January 2026, elevated temperatures across much of the state will impact some parts of the transport network.
Please avoid all non-essential travel - roads may close with little notice and public transport services may be cancelled.
Catastrophic fire danger is forecast for North Central, Northern Country, South West and Wimmera on Friday, 9 January. Extreme fire danger is forecast for the remainder of the state.
V/Line
Due to catastrophic fire dangers ratings, there will be full line suspensions on some lines with no coach replacement services outside of Catastrophic Fire Danger districts.

No V/Line train, scheduled coach or replacement coach services will operate in a fire district while a Catastrophic fire danger rating is in place for that district.
Bus
The Timboon-Cobden-Camperdown bus services will not run on Friday 9 January 2026, due to severe fire risk.
The Colac - Lorne bus services will not run on Friday 9 January 2026, due to severe fire risk.

Yarra Trams
Route 35 City Circle suspended.
Metro Trains
Belgrave line - buses will replace trains between Bayswater and Belgrave from 12pm until 8pm Friday 9 January.
