Australian Open

We’re running over 4,000 extra trams, around 400 extra trains and 150 special buses over the three weeks of the Australian Open this summer.

We’re also offering free public transport to more people than ever before.

Plan your journey

You can use your AO ticket  for free travel on tram routes 70 and Route 70a between Flinders Station and John Cain Arena. Follow the signs and staff for guidance.

Trams will run one hour after the end of play each night from Melbourne Park. Some connecting services may no longer be running if play finishes late. See Getting back late at night below.

Plan your journey using Journey Planner and check Disruptions for real time planned and unplanned service changes that may affect your journey.

The Journey Planner will show the extra services we've added to get you there and back.

Southern Cross Station escalator upgrade

Some escalators will be closed at Southern Cross Station on platforms 9 – 14.

There will also be changes to entries and exits at the station to help manage crowds, and lifts will be in high demand.

Listen to announcements, follow signage and allow extra time when moving through the station area. Consider using the Collins Street end of the station when changing between platforms or to enter and exit the station.

Regional train

There are major disruptions on the Geelong and Ballarat lines during the Australian Open 2026. Please allow extra time for your journey and check the temporary timetables before you travel.

Visit Planned Disruptions for official timetable information and service changes.

Bus

The Route 246 bus operates nearby along Punt Road. It’s an accessible, air conditioned, high-frequency route running between Clifton Hill and Elsternwick via St Kilda.

Extra buses run late at night, see Getting back late at night for more details.

Train timetable changes from 1 February 2026

From February 1, the same day as the Men’s Final, there will be a new train timetable with more services for the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line.

The new 97-kilometre line connects the southeast and northwest, with all services running through the Metro Tunnel instead of Richmond Station and the City Loop.

Men’s Final ticket holders travelling on this line will need to change at Caulfield, Malvern, Town Hall, or State Library stations.

Visit Metro Tunnel and plan ahead with Journey Planner.

Free travel

To celebrate the opening of the Metro Tunnel, public transport in Victoria is free every Saturday and Sunday until Sunday 1 February 2026.

We’ve also extended the Free Tram Zone on weekdays to include Melbourne Park for Australian Open ticket holders and accredited officials.

Youths can also enjoy free public transport every day until they’re 18 with a one-off purchase of a $5 youth myki from 1 January 2026.
