The Big Bash League is back for another season – bringing all the colour and excitement to the ‘G. Extra services will help you get to and from the MCG on Sunday 4 January.
The match will begin at 6:05 pm and concludes at approximately 9:15 pm.
Cranbourne and Pakenham line passengers continue to have direct services to and from Richmond Station during December 2025 and January 2026. Ordinary timetables, including extra event trains, run as usual; for Sunbury line passengers, these are to and from Flinders Street.
Passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham or Sunbury lines wishing to experience the Metro Tunnel to get to the MCG can use Town Hall Station and:
- Catch the Route 48 tram on Collins Street to the MCG
- Walk 5 minutes to Flinders Street and catch the Route 70 or 75 trams to the MCG
- Use the Degraves Street Subway to transfer to Flinders Street for trains to Jolimont or Richmond
- Walk 25 minutes via William Barak Bridge to the MCG
With the Metro Tunnel open for the Summer Start, operational hours are 10am – 7pm on public holidays and weekends, and 10am – 3pm on weekdays until The Big Switch on 1 February.

- Mernda, Greensborough, Glen Waverley, Sandringham, Watergardens and Craigieburn
Additional services for the following lines depart from Richmond and Flinders Street stations after the game:
- Ringwood, Glen Waverley, Dandenong, Frankston, Sandringham, Newport, Sunbury, Craigieburn, and Richmond (to Flinders Street).
Mernda and Hurstbridge Passengers are to catch any available service from Richmond (Platform 5), then transfer at Parliament for a bus.
Werribee passengers are to catch a Newport service from Richmond (Platform 3) or Flinders Street (Platform 9), then transfer at Newport for a bus.
Werribee and Craigieburn specials will depart from Flinders Street 30–35 minutes after the match.
Metropolitan tram
Getting to and from the MCG
- Trams will operate as a shuttle between Wellington Parade/Simpson Street Stop 13 and Collins Street/Victoria Harbour Stop D18
- Trams will operate as a shuttle between Flinders Street West Stop 06, and MCG/John Cain Arena stop 7C.
- Trams will operate as a shuttle between Flinders Street Stop 04 and Wellington Parade/Simpson Street Stop 13.
