Cranbourne and Pakenham line passengers continue to have direct services to and from Richmond Station during December 2025 and January 2026. Ordinary timetables, including extra event trains, run as usual; for Sunbury line passengers, these are to and from Flinders Street.
Passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham or Sunbury lines wishing to experience the Metro Tunnel to get to the MCG can use Town Hall Station and:
- Catch the Route 48 tram on Collins Street to the MCG
- Walk 5 minutes to Flinders Street and catch the Route 70 or Route 75 trams to the MCG
- Use the Degraves Street Subway to transfer to Flinders Street for trains to Jolimont or Richmond
- Walk 25 minutes via William Barak Bridge to the MCG
With the Metro Tunnel open for the Summer Start, operational hours are 10am – 7pm on public holidays and weekends, and 10am – 3pm on weekdays until The Big Switch on 1 February.

Extra trams will operate as shuttles along:
- Route 48a between Wellington Parade/Simpson Street Stop 13 and Collins Street/Victoria Harbour Stop D18
- Route 70a between Flinders Street West Stop 06, and MCG/John Cain Arena stop 7C.
- Route 75a between Flinders Street Stop 04 and Wellington Parade/Simpson Street Stop 13.
Metropolitan bus
Customers can catch the following buses close to the MCG:
- Route 246 (Elsternwick to Clifton Hill via St Kilda)
