87 new train services and more than 1100 new weekly bus services for Gippsland
From 14 September 2025, we’re adding 87 new train services per week on the Gippsland Line between Melbourne and Traralgon.
Trains will run about every 40 minutes between Melbourne and Traralgon from 8 am to 9 pm, seven days a week.
Growing communities in Gippsland will benefit from more public transport options and better connections to jobs and education.
35 bus routes and 10 coach services will have new timetables, providing better connections and easier transfers between trains and buses.
We’re adding over 1100 extra bus trips each week across 13 routes in Moe, Morwell, Traralgon, Drouin and Warragul. Buses will come every 40 minutes, making it easier to get to places like Mid Valley Shopping Centre, Moe Plaza, Traralgon Centre Plaza, Centrepoint Shopping Centre and Drouin Central.
The new train services follow the completion of the Gippsland Line Upgrade.

What’s changing?
Gippsland Line
- 87 new train services per week on the Gippsland Line between Melbourne and Traralgon.
- We’re adding 55 new services across weekdays (11 every weekday) and 32 new services across weekends (14 on Saturdays and 18 on Sundays).
- Trains will run around every 40 minutes between Melbourne and Traralgon from 8 am to 9 pm, seven days a week.
- All Sunday Sale services will now start and end in Bairnsdale.
- There will be journey time changes for some services.
- On Sundays, the 10:23 am train from Southern Cross Station to Sale will now extend to Bairnsdale and leave at 12:23 pm. Passengers who catch the 10:23 am Sunday train beyond Traralgon will need to catch the later train at 12:23 pm. A new train service will run from Southern Cross Station to Traralgon 10:23 am.
- Berwick school trains will continue to run, stopping once in the morning and afternoon on school days. The afternoon train will depart at 4pm instead of 4:17 pm.
