Join Melbourne’s largest winter running event ‘Run Melbourne’ in 2025, where over 25,000 runners will embrace the thrill of running through the city’s closed streets and iconic landmarks to raise funds for charity.

Participants can take part in the following running events, commencing from Batman Avenue as follows:

To support the safety of both event participants and users, there will be widespread road closures and changes across the public transport network during the morning. Before you go, plan your journey and allow extra time for any major disruptions.

Road closures

There will be road closures in and around Melbourne city to ensure the safety of both event participants and road users.

Expect delays in and around the CBD, Southbank, and Docklands. Key roads such as Spencer Street, Collins St, Harbour Esplanade, Flinders Street, Clarendon Street, Queensbridge Street, Batman Avenue, Alexandra Avenue, St Kilda Road and Toorak Road, and will be closed temporarily for the event from 3.45am until 1.00pm.

Motorists are advised to remain alert for pedestrians, particularly near the event hub at Melbourne Park/Olympic Blvd during the morning.

Metropolitan train icon Metropolitan train

Additional train services, including city circles, will operate to Flinders Street Station. Passengers are advised to get off at Flinders Street Station or Richmond Station and make their way on foot towards the start line on Batman Avenue.

Please note there will be bus replacements running between:

*Werribee train services will be running between 6am and 9pm. Werribee passengers are advised to board connecting services to Flinders Street station, then board a train to Richmond.

Sunbury passengers are to change at Sunshine for a bus to North Melbourne, then board a Craigieburn or Upfield line train to get to Flinders St Station to catch a connecting train to Richmond Station.

Pakenham / Cranbourne passengers are to change at Caulfield for a Frankston line train to Southern Cross.

Event participants are advised to get off at Flinders St Station or Richmond station and make their way on foot towards the start line.

Tram icon Metropolitan tram

Due to road closures associated with the Run Melbourne event, there will be tram service changes on the metropolitan network between 3.30am and 12.15pm.

Customers are advised to plan their journey using Journey Planner to ensure that they arrive on time for this event.

Bus icon Metropolitan bus

Due to road closures for Run Melbourne, the following metropolitan bus routes will be diverting around road closures on Sunday 13 July until 9.30am:

Bus route 605 will be diverting due to road closures, skipping several regular stops. Bus routes 232, 234 & 235 will not service bus stops between Boundary St/City Rd in Port Melbourne and Queen St/Lonsdale St in Melbourne.

Customers can catch the following bus services to the city however they are advised to plan their journey using Journey Planner to ensure that they arrive on time for their event.

Regional train icon Regional train

Normal timetable trains will operate to and from Southern Cross Station. Passengers are advised to transfer at Southern Cross for a train heading towards Flinders Street Station or Richmond Station, then continue their journey by foot towards the start line on Batman Avenue.
