Fare changes for young people and senior Victorians
From 1 January 2026, a new Youth myki will be introduced providing free travel for young people on all public trains, trams and buses in Victoria.
To be eligible for the new Youth myki you must:
- Be a Victorian aged under 18
- Purchase and register the myki via the PTV website
The cards will be used like any other myki to tap on and travel through ticket gates at stations and when getting on a bus or tram. Children living in non-myki areas will be eligible for the same free travel.
The cost of the Youth myki will be $5 and it will be available before the end of the year.
In addition, all Victorian Senior myki holders will be able to travel anywhere in the state, for free on weekends. The existing 50 per cent discount will continue to apply for seniors on weekdays.
Seniors will not need to obtain a new myki card. They will be able to present their Senior myki or tap on or off, as normal.
Concession discounts will continue to apply for Victorian Health Care Card holders, 18 year olds, tertiary students and a range of other concession card holders.
