Public transport for the 2024 Melbourne Marathon
The Melbourne Marathon Festival is back this Sunday 13 October for the 46th anniversary of this annual event.
Several road closures will be in place to allow the event to run safely. Road and rail construction works continue across the weekend with buses replacing trains on a number of lines. For a smooth journey, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Event details
Sunday 13 October
Start location: Batman Avenue, approximately 150m North of Rod Laver Arena.
- 42.195km Nike Melbourne Marathon – 7am
- 10km Run – 7:30am, Sunday 13 Oct
- 42.195km Nike Wheelchair Marathon – 7:55am
- 21.1km Nike Half Marathon – 8am
- 5km Run – 11:30am
- 2.5km Walk – 12:00pm
A number of road closures will be in place, starting from 4am, for the safety of participants and motorists. All roads will reopen by 2pm. See below for more information.
Traffic detours will be in place around the MCG, Yarra Park, Batman Ave, Flinders St, St Kilda Rd, Botanical Gardens, Albert Park, Port Melbourne, and Elwood.

Routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 16, 35, 58, 64, 67, 70, 72, 75 and 96 will be affected by service changes from first tram to 2pm on Sunday 13 October, due to road closures associated with the Melbourne Marathon event in the City and St Kilda. |

The following road closures will be in place for the Melbourne Marathon Festival.

- Jolimont Road, East Melbourne – Wellington Parade to Jolimont Street
- Brunton Avenue, East Melbourne – Jolimont Street to Punt Road
- Batman Avenue (CityLink), Melbourne – Olympic Boulevard to Flinders Street
- Beach Road – Beaconsfield Pde/Jacka Bvd/Marine Pde/Ormond Esp, St Kilda – Bay Street to Head Street
- Hoddle Highway (Punt Road), Melbourne – Swan St to Brunton Ave - single lane closure
- Wellington Parade, East Melbourne – At Jolimont Road – turning lane closures
- Yarra Bank Highway (City Rd/Alexandra Ave), Melbourne – Fanning Street to Swan Street Bridge - single lane open
- St Kilda Road, Southbank – Southbank Boulevard to Domain Road - southbound service lane and carriageway
- St Kilda Road, Southbank – Southbank Boulevard to Fitzroy Street - northbound service lane and carriageway
- Fitzroy Street, St Kilda – St Kilda Road to Canterbury Road
- Albert Road, Albert Park – Canterbury Road to Kings Way - turning lane closures
- Canterbury Road/Ferrars St, Albert Park – Albert Road to Fitzroy Street
