We're helping you get to the Australian Open this year, with additional services and free travel for Australian Open ticket holders on Route 70 and Route 70a shuttle trams between Stop D6-Flinders Street West and Stop 7C-MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena.
The Australian Open will be held at Melbourne Park just south-east of the CBD, from Sunday 14 January to Sunday 28 January 2024.

Before you travel
Passengers are advised to plan their trip as there will be some road and public transport works across the transport network during the Australian Open.

Free travel for ticket holders
Australian Open ticket holders can travel for free travel on Route 70 and Route 70a trams between Stop D6-Flinders Street West and Stop MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena during the tournament. Make sure you have your Australian Open ticket with you when you travel.
If you are also catching a train, tram (except for journeys within the Free Tram Zone (PDF) 978 KB ), bus or regional service to or from the tournament, you’ll need to have a valid myki for your journey. For more information, see myki.
Entry to the Australian Open
For an easy entry to the tournament, make sure you have your digital tickets ready to go.

Public transport and walking options to Melbourne Park
There are a number of public transport and walking options to get you to and from Melbourne Park.
- Catch a free shuttle tram on Route 70 and Route 70a between Stop D6-Flinders Street West and Stop 7C-MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena to Melbourne Park.
- Catch a train to Flinders Street Station and walk 10 minutes via Tanderrum Bridge.
- Catch a train to Richmond Station and walk 10 minutes or connect with Route 70 trams to the Grand Slam Oval Entrance.
- Catch a train to Jolimont Station and walk 10 to 15 minutes.
Melbourne Park entrances
For specific entrances to Melbourne Park, passengers may wish to consider the following options:
- City Entrance: Walk from Flinders Street.
- Garden Square Entrance: Catch the free Route 70a shuttle tram to Stop 7B Rod Laver Arena/MCG Gates 1-3 or Route 70 tram.
- Grand Slam Oval Entrance: Catch the free Route 70a shuttle tram, Route 70 tram to Stop 7B Rod Laver Arena/MCG Gates 1-3 or walk from Richmond Station.

Public transport services throughout the tournament
Day sessions start at 11am and night sessions start at 5pm most days of the tournament. Start times differ at the end of Week Two on Friday 26 January, Saturday 27 January and Sunday 28 January. Visit the Australian Open website for information on session start times.
Metropolitan train
Passengers can catch a train to Flinders Street Station, Parliament Station, Jolimont Station and Richmond Station and then walk to Melbourne Park.
Travelling to City Entrance
Patrons can catch a train to Flinders Street Station, then walk to the city entrance of Melbourne Park.
Travelling to Garden Square Entrance
Patrons can catch trains to Flinders Street Station, Jolimont Station or Richmond Station and then take tram to Garden Square Entrance.
Travelling to Grand Slam Oval Entrance
Patrons can catch trains to Richmond Station then walk to Grand Slam Oval Entrance.
Last train services
The last train services depart Flinders Street Station from approximately 12 midnight during the week. The Night Network will operate on weekends, with trains departing hourly all night from Flinders Street Station.

Metropolitan tram
8.45am to 1.15am each day: Additional trams will run as Route 70a travelling to and from MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena (Stop 7C) and Flinders Street West (Stop D6) in addition to scheduled Route 70 services.
For night games: Trams will continue running to and from the city one hour after the conclusion of the centre court match each night of the tournament.
Please note: There is no direct access to the precinct via Stop 7C MCG 4-7/John Cain Arena as Practice Village Entrance will not be operational in AO24. The closest entry points to John Cain Arena is Grand Slam Oval Entrance via footbridge.
Travelling to City Entrance
For patrons travelling to City Entrance, we recommend you take the Route 70 or Route 70a trams to Stop 7A William Barak Bridge then walk to City Entrance. Or you can walk 15-20 minutes via Birrarung Marr and Tanderrum Bridge to City Entrance.
Travelling to Garden Square Entrance
For patrons travelling to Garden Square Entrance your best options are to take the Route 70 or Route 70a trams to Stop 7B Rod Laver Arena/MCG gates 1-3.
Travelling to Grand Slam Oval Entrance
Patrons travelling to Grand Slam Oval Entrance should only take Route 70 Tram to Stop 7D Olympic Boulevard.
Service changes
From first to last tram daily:
- Route 12a trams will operate between St Kilda, Fitzroy St, and Southern Cross Station.

Getting to and from the tournament:
- Passengers can catch Route 246 which travel close to Melbourne Park.

Night Network, all night transport on weekends
On Friday and Saturday nights, public transport will run all night:
- Trains: Hourly services in and out of the city on all metro train lines (except Showgrounds and Stony Point lines)
- Trams: 30 minute service on tram routes 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109
- Buses: 21 popular bus routes run a 24-hour weekend service 13 special routes run after midnight
- Coaches: Services between 1am and 2am to Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Seymour and Traralgon

Accessible public transport
Low floor trams will provide a shuttle service between Flinders Street West (Stop D6) and John Cain Arena (Stop 7C) during the Australian Open.
The service will operate approximately every 10 minutes during the following hours:
- Sunday 14 January to Sunday 28 January from 8.45am to 1.15am
