With Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 7 November, the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival officially gets off and racing at Flemington Racecourse!

There will be additional services so you can get to and from the races easily.

All services will operate to a public holiday timetable, with additional services noted below.

Metropolitan train icon Metropolitan train

Train services on all lines will run to a Saturday timetable. There will be no Night Network services.

Getting to the Racecourse

Flinders Street Station services will depart from Platform 8/9 and run express to Flemington Racecourse:

Southern Cross Station services will depart from Platform 8 stopping at North Melbourne Station and then running express to Flemington Racecourse:

Leaving the Racecourse

Services will depart Flemington Racecourse (Platform 1 and 2) and run express to North Melbourne (Platform 5), Southern Cross (Platform 13) and Flinders Street (Platform 8/9) stations:

Please note: The last service to depart Flemington Racecourse will be at 8:59pm from Platform 1

Passengers for the Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown lines can catch a one-way shuttle bus from Leonard Crescent (outside Flemington Racecourse Station) express to Footscray Station:

Trams will operate to a Saturday frequency, with last tram approximately one hour earlier than usual, and there will be no Night Network services.

Getting to and from the Racecourse

Additional services will operate on Route 57a tram, from Elizabeth Street to Epsom Road (Melbourne Showgrounds):

These services will operate as a shuttle service and will stop all stops between Stop 1 Flinders St Station and Stop 19 Royal Children’s Hospital, then express to Stop 30 Flemington Racecourse

Regional trains will run to a Saturday timetable, with additional seating operating on the Geelong and Bendigo lines.

Bendigo line 

Return additional seating will leave Southern Cross to Bendigo at 8:37pm

Geelong line 

Return additional seating will leave Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds at 9:55pm

Getting to the Racecourse

Passengers arriving at North Melbourne and Southern Cross stations are advised to change trains and catch a Racecourse service.

Passengers are advised to catch any train from the Racecourse and alight at Southern Cross or North Melbourne stations and change to a regional train.

Passengers arriving at Southern Cross Station coach terminal are advised to walk to Platforms 8 or 14 and catch a Flemington Racecourse service.
