Public transport for 2023 Penfolds Victoria Derby Day: Saturday 4 November 2023
With Derby Day on Saturday 4 November, the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival officially gets off and racing at Flemington Racecourse!
There will be additional services so you can get to and from the races easily.

All services will operate to a normal Saturday timetable, with additional services running as noted below.
- Gates open: 9:30am
- First Race: 12:20pm
- Feature Race: 4:20pm
- Last Race: 5:40pm
Metropolitan train
Getting to the Racecourse
Flinders Street Station services will depart from Platforms 8/9 and run express to Flemington Racecourse:
- From 9:12am to 2:04pm, every 6 to 9 minutes
- From 2:04pm to 4:08pm, every 10 minutes (services will also stop at Southern Cross - Platform 14 and North Melbourne - Platform 6)
Southern Cross Station services will depart from Platform 8 stopping at North Melbourne Station and then running express to Flemington Racecourse:
- From 9:22am to 1:33pm, every 10 minutes
Leaving the Racecourse
Services will depart Flemington Racecourse (Platform 1 and 2) and run express to North Melbourne (Platform 5), Southern Cross (Platform 13) and Flinders Street (Platforms 8/9) stations:
- From 2:06pm to 3:55pm, every 10 minutes
- From 4:03pm to 6:59pm, every 4 to 5 minutes
- From 6:59pm to 8:59pm, every 10 minutes
Please note: The last service to depart Flemington Racecourse will be at 8:59pm from Platform 1

Footscray Station bus shuttle
Passengers for the Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown lines can catch a one-way shuttle bus from Leonard Crescent (outside Flemington Racecourse Station) express to Footscray Station:
- From 3pm to 8pm, every 5 minutes
Metropolitan tram
Getting to and from the Racecourse
Additional services will operate on Route 57a tram, from Elizabeth Street to Epsom Road (Melbourne Showgrounds):
These services will operator as a shuttle service and will stop all stops between Stop 1 Flinders St Station and Stop 19 Royal Children’s Hospital, then express to Stop 30 Flemington Racecourse
- From 10:30am to 1:30pm and 4pm to 8pm

Getting to and from the Racecourse
The following bus route travels close to the Racecourse:
- Route 404 (please note service may finish prior to the end of the raceday)

Getting to the Racecourse
Passengers arriving at North Melbourne and Southern Cross stations are advised to change trains and catch a Racecourse service.

Passengers are advised to catch any train from the Racecourse and alight at Southern Cross or North Melbourne stations and change to a regional train.

Getting to the Racecourse
Passengers arriving at Southern Cross Station coach terminal are advised to walk to Platforms 8 or 14 and catch a Flemington Racecourse service.

Customers can catch any service departing Flemington Racecourse, alight at Southern Cross Station and then walk to the coach terminal.
