Public transport for the 2022 Melbourne Marathon Festival
The Melbourne Marathon Festival is back this Sunday 2 October for the 44th anniversary of this annual event.
Several road closures will be in place to allow the event to run safely. Road and rail construction works continue across the weekend with buses replacing trains on a number of lines. For a smooth journey, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Sunday 2 October
Start location: North along Batman Avenue, finishes outside of MCG.
- 42.195km Nike Melbourne Marathon – 7am
- 10km run – 7.30am
- 42.195km Nike Wheelchair Marathon – 7.55am
- 21.1km Nike Half Marathon – 8am
- 5km run – 11.30am
- 3km walk – 11.45am
A number of road closures will be in place, starting from 4am, for the safety of participants and motorists. All roads will reopen by 2pm. See below for more information.
Traffic detours will be in place around the MCG, Yarra Park, Batman Ave, Flinders St, St Kilda Rd, Botanical Gardens, Albert Park, Port Melbourne, and Elwood.

Road closures
The following road closures will be in place for the Melbourne Marathon Festival.
Sunday 2 October: various times between 4.30am and 2pm
- St Kilda Road between the St Kilda Junction and the Princes Bridge
- Flinders Street between Spring and Swanston streets
- Batman Avenue between Olympic Boulevard and Flinders Street
- Beach Road between Port Melbourne and Elwood
- Brunton Avenue, Jolimont Road and Wellington Parade South near the MCG
- Roads around Albert Park Lake
