Public transport for the Australian Open 2022

We're helping you get to the Australian Open this year, with free travel for ticket holders on Route 70 and Route 70a shuttle trams between D6-Flinders Street West and stop 7C-MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena.
The Australian Open is held at Melbourne Park just south-east of the CBD, from Monday 17 January to Sunday 30 January 2022.

Before you travel
QR codes have been rolled out across the public transport network to help keep passengers safe. Please check-in every time you see a QR code and register your myki as well. The details you share are used to contact you when necessary, to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the community.
When travelling on public transport you must wear a fitted face mask if you are eight years and over covering your nose and mouth, unless you have a lawful reason for not doing so, and ensure you wear it for your entire journey.
Due to driver availability, there may be changes to some public transport services. Passengers are advised to plan their trip and allow extra travel time for the duration of the Australian Open.

Free travel for ticket holders
Australian Open ticket holders can travel for free travel on Route 70 and Route 70a trams between stop D6-Flinders Street West and stop 7C-MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena during the tournament. Make sure you have your Australian Open ticket with you when you travel.
If you are also catching a train, tram (except for journeys within the Free Tram Zone (PDF) 491KB), bus or regional service to or from the tournament, you’ll need to have a valid myki for your journey. For more information, see myki.
Entry to the Australian Open
For an easy entry to the tournament, make sure you have your digital tickets and Service Victoria app ready to go.
- Download your ticket and assign each ticket to a ticketholder using the ticket forwarding function.
- All patrons aged 12 years 2 months or older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid medical exception. Before attending, please link your certificate to the Service Victoria app. This also applies to interstate travellers. Download Service Vic app for iPhone or Android

Public transport and walking options to Melbourne Park
There are a number of public transport and walking options to get you to and from Melbourne Park.
- Catch a free shuttle tram on Route 70 and Route 70a between stop D6-Flinders Street West and stop 7C-MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena to Melbourne Park.
- Catch a train to Flinders Street Station and walk 15 to 20 minutes via Birrarung Marr or connect with Route 70 or 70a trams.
- Catch a train to Richmond Station and walk 5 minutes or connect with Route 70 trams.
- Catch a train to Jolimont Station and walk 10 to 15 minutes.
Melbourne Park entrances
For specific entrances to Melbourne Park, passengers may wish to consider the following options:
- City Entrance: Catch the free Route 70a shuttle tram, Route 70 tram or walk from Flinders Street or Jolimont stations.
- Garden Square Entrance: Catch the free Route 70a shuttle tram, Route 70 tram or walk from Richmond Station.
- Practice Village Entrance: Catch the Route 70a shuttle tram, Route 70 tram or walk from Richmond Station.
- Richmond Entrance: Catch Route 70 tram or walk from Richmond Station.

Public transport services throughout the tournament
Day sessions start at 10am and night sessions start at 5pm or 6pm most days of the tournament. Start times differ at the end of Week Two on Friday 28 January, Saturday 29 January and Sunday 30 January. Visit the Australian Open website for information on session start times.
Please Note: With a large number of staff isolating, some services may be disrupted over the next few weeks as we work to balance timetable requirements with staff availability.
Passengers are advised to plan their trip and allow extra travel time over the duration of the Australian Open. Check PTV departures within 60 minutes of travel for the latest departure information.
Metropolitan train
Passengers can catch trains to Flinders Street Station, Parliament Station, Jolimont Station and Richmond Station and then walk to Melbourne Park (or connect with trams).

Metropolitan tram
8.45am to 1.15am each day: Additional trams will run as Route 70a travelling to and from MCG Gates 4-7/John Cain Arena (Stop 7C) and Flinders Street West (Stop D6) in addition to scheduled Route 70 services.
Trams will continue running to and from the city until one hour after the conclusion of the centre court match each night of the tournament.
Service changes
From first to last tram daily:
- Route 12 trams divert via La Trobe and Spencer Streets between Stop 12 St Vincent’s Plaza and Stop 124 Batman Park.
- Route 30 trams will not run.

Getting to and from the tournament:
- Passengers can catch Route 246 which travel close to Melbourne Park.

Night Network, all night transport on weekends
On Friday and Saturday nights, public transport will run all night:
- Trains: Hourly services in and out of the city on all metro train lines (except Showgrounds and Stony Point lines)
- Trams: 30 minute service on tram routes 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109
- Buses: 21 popular bus routes run a 24-hour weekend service 13 special routes run after midnight
- Coaches: Services between 1am and 2am to Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Seymour and Traralgon

Accessible public transport
Low floor trams will provide a shuttle service between Flinders Street West and John Cain Arena during the Australian Open.
The service will operate approximately every 10 minutes during the following hours:
- Monday 17 January to Thursday 27 January from 8.05am to 1.15am
- Friday 27 January to Sunday 30 January from 11.00am to 1.15am
